TEMPORARY VISA V – VITEM V
Who is eligible:
- scientists, professors, teachers, technicians, or any other traveler holding an employment contract with a Brazilian organization or corporation;
- professionals traveling to render service to the Brazilian Government;
- business travelers if trip involves technical assistance of any nature in Brazil. Typical activities include jobs contracted with a Brazilian company or individual, technical jobs and/or training performed at an affiliate company in Brazil, franchise operation activities, evaluation and/or repair of equipment installed in Brazil or sold to a Brazilian client, etc.;
- students in professional training, working without a contract, after completion of a technical school or university course;
- medical residents or interns;
- language teachers, including trainees;
- ship crewmembers working on fishing foreign vessels rented by Brazilian companies.
Important: Visitors should register at DPF's Office (the Federal Police) up to 30(thirty) days after arrival.
Important:
- all documents need approval of the Ministry of Foreign Relations in Brazil.
- this Consulate must legalize all documents after duly notarized. Documents issued in Brazil must be notarized in Brazil.
- the Consulate may request additional information/documentation, as deemed necessary.
- application must be submitted to the Ministry of Labor in Brazil by the sponsoring institution or company in Brazil at the following address:

- note that the Consulate must legalize all foreign documents submitted with the petition.
Only after approval by the Ministry of Labor in Brazil will the Ministry of Foreign Relations authorize processing the Visa.
At this stage, the following documents must be submitted to the Consulate:
- two Visa Application Forms, filled out, dated and signed by the applicant (parents must sign for minors under 18 years of age);

- passport valid for a minimum of six months from the date of intended arrival in Brazil, with at least two blank pages available.
- a copy of the Japan Alien Resident Card ( Gaikokujin Touroku-Shomei ) for foreign residents and/or a valid visa or document to return from Brazil to Japan or to another country; for a Japanese national a certificate of residence ( Jumin-Hyo ) issued within the jurisdiction.
- two recent 5 x 7cm photos, front view, white background. Snapshots and computer pictures are not accepted;
- police clearance issued within the last 3 months, certifying absence of criminal record. Police clearance must be legalized by the Consulate. A fee of ¥2.800 will be charged;
- proof of residence within the consular jurisdiction for the past 12 months (i.e., letter from the employer/educational institution notarized, copy of utility bill or voter's registration).
- original Birth Certificate. The Consulate will then make a true copy. A fee of ¥700 will be charged.
Consular Fees:
- ¥14.000 for the visa.
- a processing fee of ¥14.000 will be additionally charged to all US passport holders, in reciprocity for an identical fee paid by Brazilian citizens who apply for visas to the US;
- an additional absent fee of ¥1.400 will be charged for any application not submitted in person.
Note that:
- The Consulate General of Brazil in Tokyo does not process same day visas (no rush fee!). The processing time is up to 07 (seven) working days. Please plan accordingly!

- visas are good for multiple entries and must be used within 90 days from date of issue;
- if stay exceeds 90 days, registration with the Federal Police within 30 days of first arrival in Brazil is mandatory. Along with passport, applicant must submit one of the original visa application forms which will be returned once the visa is issued;
- check vaccination for information about yellow fever.
- the legalization of documents issued in Japan must be done by a Notary Public within the jurisdiction of the Consulate.
